Enjoy a Childhood Favorite Once More, When You See Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Calling all music makers and dreamers of dreams! H-E-B Cinema on Will's Plaza presents Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on Friday, November 8th. Come out for a free screening of the classic film this weekend.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is a 1971 musical fantasy family film directed by Mel Stuart and starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. It is an adaptation of the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. The film tells the story of an only child, Charlie Bucket.

Charlie, a sweet boy from a poor family, dreams of finding one of five golden tickets hidden inside chocolate bar wrappers, which will admit him to the eccentric and reclusive Willy Wonka’s magical factory. One after another, tickets are discovered by ghastly children – but will the lad find the last remaining one and have all his dreams come true?

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score (1972), and Wilder was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

H-E-B Cinema on Will's Plaza is a free outdoor event for all ages. Every second Friday of the month, family-friendly films offer patrons of all ages a great cinematic experience.
